It’s all about new abilities this week monkey! Look at all the stuff you can do now:
- Thumb sucking begins
- The fetus may swallow amniotic fluid
- Move the head forward and back
- Open and close the jaw (Most fetuses suck their thumbs–usually preferring the right thumb–I wonder if you do this!).
- Move the tongue
- Sigh and stretch
Also of note, by 11 weeks, the nerve receptors in your face, palms of the hands, and soles of your feet can sense and respond to light touch. Following a light touch on the sole of your foot, you will bend your hip and knee and may curl your toes. Cute!
The peristalsis that was previously restricted to your large intestine begins in the small intestine.
If you are a girl baby monkey, your uterus is identifiable now and, within your tiny fetal ovary, immature germ cells called oogonia, are replicating via mitosis.Outside the body, your genitalia begin to differentiate as either boy or girl. I’m so curious as to which one you are! Daddy says boy. I say girl! Either way we’re excited and just want you to be healthy!!
In the larynx, your vocal ligaments are now appearing and signal the onset of vocal cord development. You’ll need these later to scream at me as a teenager! 😉
At 11.5 weeks you experience a huge burst of growth as your weight increases approximately 77%. Go baby, go!Your corpus callosum, which is made up of the axons of millions of neurons that connect the left and right sides of your brain, begins to develop now. Tre cool. Seriously. I love your brain.
You are up to so many fun things this week, my love. I wish I could peek in on you and see you having all sorts of fun in there haha.
And as always, here are some pictures of what you look like right now:
Complete 11 week old in the gestational sac. It’s just so beautiful.
The black and red one below is pretty awesome, no?
And check out your growth in comparison to where you’ve been and where you’re going!
I love you my little monkey!! Congratulations on another week…only one more week left in this trimester!!
